Today I come with a pattern for adults and a winter tale for children. Children first, of course.
Poppa Snow was born on a day with lots of snow. It snowed all night and the children could hardly wait for breakfast to play in the snow. His body was shaped in the hands of very kind, happy, loving children; they dressed him in the hat of a very wise mother; they hung the scarf of a caring father around his neck; they put arms from the fallen branches of their favorite tree. A nose made of the tastiest and best-looking carrot, two big eyes made of colored balls, and in such a garden Poppa Snow was born before that momentous event. The children played beside him every morning and at night they could not go to sleep without wishing him good night through the window.

But unfortunately not every garden was as peaceful as Poppa’s garden. Angry children playing in the angry gardens of angry houses also made snowmen, as did restless children playing in the restless gardens of restless houses. And not all snowmen were decorated with pretty hats and warm scarves. Snowmen are good-natured by nature. Yet they are affected by the emotions of the hands that shape them. Unfortunately, in their short lives there are sad snowmen, angry ones, restless ones.
Snow comes with its fluffy clothes, its unique landscapes, the joyful cries of children looking forward to it. And the evil spirits that roam with the wind at night. We don’t know if they are the snow queen’s men, or just the children of cold and darkness. What we do know is that it is dangerous to be outside at night when it is snowing.
One such night a quiet icy voice was heard in the wind. “What an unfair world this is,” it whispered in the snowmen’s ears. “They play with you for an hour or two and then forget you in a corner of the garden. Are you going to spend your short life waiting for the sun to come and melt you? Or until some rascal comes along and ends your life with a kick? You must do something; time is running out.” The snowmen listened and stirred restlessly. This went on for three nights. Finally one of the angry snowmen – always the angry ones first, because logic and anger cannot coexist – said: “We must do something, we are running out of time”. And together with the snowmen who agreed with him, they started to move towards the houses of the children who were sleeping soundly. To do who knows what?
Poppa Snow listened for three nights, waited for three nights. He knew the children were not to blame. He was not one to listen to the words of evil spirits. First he tried to calm the rioting snowmen; then he warned them; and as a last resort, he collected the snowballs left over from the snowball fight that morning in his garden. He stood up to the snowmen who wanted to harm the children.
Don’t worry, Poppa Snow knew that the snowmen were innocent too. So he threw the snowballs at them, causing only enough damage to make them stop. The snowmen were shocked by this unexpected attack and suddenly realized what a big mistake they were about to make. So, thanks to Poppa Snow, that very bad night never happened and the snowmen remained the children’s dearest friends.
Where there are evil spirits, there are of course good spirits. Poppa Snow was rewarded for his courage and common sense. Now he is a guardian spirit that comes with the snow in winter, protecting us at night and from snowmen tricked by evil spirits. If you wake up one morning and find that the snowman you built is strangely broken, now you know why.
If you want a Poppa Snow to protect your home, let me tell you how to make one.

Neither New Year nor winter means much to me. Winter means animals that grow into fluffy winter coats and become even cuter. That’s why I find it so hard to come up with a pattern for winter. Just like in the fairy tale, Poppa Snow came to my rescue. And he became my favorite pattern for the winter season.
First of all, I would like to thank the.KRraft for this wonderful pattern and for choosing me as a tester again. It has been a wonderful journey for me as well. It came at an unfortunate time for me, so even though it didn’t make the contribution it deserved, it inspired me a lot and I learned a lot.
For me, the most attractive part of this pattern is the facial expression. Especially when his eyes are out of place. I imagined this story very differently in the beginning, but when I finished it and looked at his face and his sweet expression, the story changed in an instant. This proves what an inspiring pattern it is. I’m sure it will spark a lot of ideas in your mind as it is also very technically instructive.
It has reached a special rank for me as a toy that has been played with the most and the longest of all the toys I have crocheted so far. One of the most beautiful things about this pattern is that each part can be used separately. You can make just the head and play with it by throwing balls all over the place. Or use his beautiful hat for another toy. The pouch looks great and can be used as a decoration. The shape of the carrot is beautiful and my parrot loves it.
The difficulty level of the pattern is advanced. And the intelligence, effort and creativity I witnessed during the testing process of an advanced pattern increased my respect for the pattern designers. The more patterns I see, the harder it is for me to create patterns. I am grateful that pattern designers exist.
Although it is an advanced level pattern, I think you will be very comfortable thanks to the elaboration of the pattern. There is no part of the pattern where techniques are taught. A very nice page design and detailed photos are waiting for you. By the way, once you crochet the pattern once, the second time will be very easy. Because the parts other than the head are very easy. I especially enjoyed crocheting the pouch. Yes, it is a complicated pattern, but I can assure you that you will crochet your second and third Poppa much easier and faster. And you must know It’s nearly no sew pattern. Isn’t that wonderful.
It is in your best interest to be careful to choose your yarn and matching crochet in the size specified in the pattern. I, of course, couldn’t do it right and used a smaller crochet than recommended. The first head I made was beautifully shaped, but the balls were too hard for me to throw. Then I went back to the size recommended by the pattern and as you can see, the balls were thrown well enough to play basketball. I used 2.5 mm crochet for the head and 3.00 mm crochet for the pouch on sport weight / fine size threads. The length was 16cm / 6,29 inches.
Since I am deeply attached to this pattern and I am a tester of the pattern, of course it is impossible for me to describe it very objectively. the.KRraft’s instagram page, she shares great photos and videos just like her page designs. After seeing those posts, you will find it impossible not to buy this pattern. I hope you will love Poppa Snow as much as I do. I would love to read your experiences with the pattern and your comments on my pattern review. With love.
Oh, children, never forget the story of Poppa Snow. Please don’t stay out at night when it is snowing. And adults, raise happy children in happy homes. Otherwise they will be very susceptible to evil. It is even said that the first child to put a stone in a snowball got the idea from evil spirits. Neither Poppa Snow, nor the bright sky, nor a warm smile can protect their icy hearts from evil spirits.
